“This is probably the oldest photograph in existence of the original St. Leander Church. It bears the date February 21, 1866, and is signed on the back by Sophie Ward, a granddaughter of Jose Joaquin Estudillo. It was taken by S.P. Sanders, “traveling photographer,” and, as required by law, a 2c revenue stamp is affixed. Loaned by Margaret E. Schlichtmann.”
